After a remarkable self-own on Thursday night, CNN journalist Jim Acosta has become the internet’s favorite joke.
After President Trump announced that he would be visiting the southern border in McAllen, Texas, Acosta followed him.
The CNN journalist arrived with a mission in mind: disprove President Trump’s claim that there was a “national emergency” happening at the border.
And, in a pair of tweets, Acosta set out to do just that.
“The steel slats don’t run the entire length of the border in the McAllen area. We found one part where there is a chain link fence. Occasionally migrants come thru but residents say their community is quite safe,” Acosta said in one of the tweets.
Acosta actually did upload a video of himself saying that in areas where the wall exists, there is less immigration than in areas where there is no wall or a mere chain-linked fence.
Donld Trump Jr. quickly called out the self-own: “Of course you don’t Jim. That’s because walls work. Thanks for your help proving @realDonaldTrump’s point and simultaneously creating one of the best self-own videos ever!!!”
White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders similarly took to Twitter to say the reason Acosta did not see evidence of a “national emergency” where he was looking was because there was a border wall in that area.
“I never imagined @Acosta would be there doing our job for us and so clearly explaining why WALLS WORK. Thanks Jim!” she wrote.
Several other users on the social media platform were quick to point out the glaring hole in Acosta’s argument:
President Trump also chimed in for a little extra sting, Twitchy reports:
CNN’s Jim Acosta reported that he saw no emergency situation at the border near McAllen, Texas — as he was standing next to a steel fence. Maybe try California, where members of the migrant caravan tried to rush the fence and were driven back by tear gas.
It’s a tradition now to quote-tweet Jim Acosta and write “Dear Diary,” and now even President Trump is doing it.
