CAUGHT ON TAPE: VA Gov Actually Says A Baby Can Be Aborted After It Is Birthed

Virginia Governor Ralph Northam surprised a number of people on Wednesday when he weighed into a Democrat-led proposal which would allow pregnant women to choose to abort their children up to the very moments up to its natural birth.

Here’s more on the proposal, from the Daily Wire:

The Repeal Act, introduced as HB2491, would eliminate all existing restrictions on abortion in the state of Virginia. A summary of the bill states:

Eliminates the requirement that an abortion in the second trimester of pregnancy and prior to the third trimester be performed in a hospital. The bill eliminates all the procedures and processes, including the performance of an ultrasound, required to effect a woman’s informed written consent to the performance of an abortion; however, the bill does not change the requirement that a woman’s informed written consent be first obtained. The bill eliminates the requirement that two other physicians certify that a third trimester abortion is necessary to prevent the woman’s death or impairment of her mental or physical health, as well as the need to find that any such impairment to the woman’s health would be substantial and irremediable. The bill also removes language classifying facilities that perform five or more first-trimester abortions per month as hospitals for the purpose of complying with regulations establishing minimum standards for hospitals.

And, from Breitbart:

The bill is proposed as New York Democrat Gov. Andrew Cuomo has just signed into law the Reproductive Health Act, which eliminates recognition of “personhood” in the unborn and defines a “person” as a “human being who has been born and is alive.” That law has been referred to as permitting “infanticide” by many pro-life groups.

The motion was pushed by Virginia Democratic Delegate Kathy Tran, who defended it during debate on Tuesday. The bill ultimately lost the committee vote.

During an interview with WTOP, Northam supported the motion and seemed to push the envelope a little further by suggesting that a mother could make the decision to abort the child after it was birthed, as it lay on a birthing table.

From Fox News:

Northam, a former pediatric neurologist, was asked about those comments and said he couldn’t speak for Tran, but said that third-trimester abortions are done with “the consent of obviously the mother, with consent of the physician, multiple physicians by the way, and it’s done in cases where there may be severe deformities or there may be a fetus that’s not viable.”

Northam said (emphasis added): “So in this particular example if a mother is in labor, I can tell you exactly what would happen, the infant would be delivered. The infant would be kept comfortable. The infant would be resuscitated if that’s what the mother and the family desired, and then a discussion would ensue between the physicians and the mother.”

The National Review adds:

“This is why decisions such as this should be made by providers, physicians, and the mothers and fathers that are involved,” Northam said. “When we talk about third-trimester abortions, these are done with the consent of obviously the mother, with the consent of the physician — more than one physician, by the way — and it’s done in cases where there may be severe deformities. There may be a fetus that’s non-viable.”

Northam is either unaware of the specifics of the bill, or he’s lying about them. Tran’s legislation explicitly removes the current requirement that three physicians agree that a woman is in need of a late-term abortion. The new bill would require only the consent of the mother and of the physician performing the abortion. But he went on to say something even more heinous.

WATCH:

On Wednesday night, Northam took to Twitter and said: “I have devoted my life to caring for children and any insinuation otherwise is shameful and disgusting.”
