‘Who Is This Guy?’: House Democrats Go Nuclear On AOC’s Chief Of Staff As Infighting Heats Up

The civil war between the House Democratic establishment and four outlying freshmen members (Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Ilhan Omar, Rashida Talib, and Ayanna Pressley) is continuing to heat up as the official House Democrats account took to Twitter to swipe Ocasio-Cortez’s chief of staff.

“Who is this guy,” the account tweeted, “and why is he explicitly singling out a Native American woman of color?”

“Her name is Congresswoman Davids, not Sharice. She is a phenomenal new member who flipped a red seat blue,” the tweet continued.

“Keep Her Name Out Of Your Mouth,” the account added.

“The comment also seemed to be a dig at Ocasio-Cortez herself, following her recent comments accusing House Speaker Nancy Pelosi of targeting progressive Democrats based on race,” Fox News reports.

The Hill reports:

The caucus hammered Saikat Chakrabarti for comments he made going after Rep. Sharice Davids (D-Kan.), who is Native American. Chakrabarti said in the quoted tweet that Davids had taken votes that “enable a racist system.”

The feuding began when Chakrabarti, in a now-deleted tweet, described centrist Democrats last month as “new Southern Democrats” that “certainly seem hell bent to do to black and brown people today what the old Southern Democrats did in the 40s.”

Pelosi on Thursday said the tweet offended a number of Democrats and scolded her party at a closed-door meeting this week.

“So, again, you got a complaint? You come and talk to me about it. But do not tweet about our Members and expect us to think that that is just OK,” she said, according to a source in the room.

Ocasio-Cortez then in an interview with The Washington Post accused Pelosi of singling out women of color for criticism, seeming to reference a group of four outspoken, progressive congresswomen including herself, known as “the squad.”

Shortly after the tweet was posted, some people began to theorize that the tweet was accidentally posted or perhaps posted illicitly, but the tweet was confirmed to be official by Daily Beast national security reporter Erin Banco.

The House Democrats tweet was in response to Chakrabarti who posted on June 27, “I think the point still stands. I don’t think people have to be personally racist to enable a racist system. And the same could even be said of the Southern Democrats. I don’t believe Sharice is a racist person, but her votes are showing her to enable a racist system.”

Chakrabarti responded to the tweet in a pair of tweets where he said he knew “Rep. Davids for a long time, consider her a friend, and encouraged her to run for Congress back in the fall of 2016. I’m glad she did.”

“Everything I tweeted 2 weeks ago was to call out the terrible border funding bill that 90+ Dems opposed. It gave Trump a blank check to continue caging people in horrendous conditions. Our Democracy is literally falling apart. I’m not interested in substance-less Twitter spats,” Chakrabarti added in another tweet.
