Trump Fully Endorses The Senate’s New Infrastructure Plan: ‘Get It Done. I Am With You’

President Trump announced the newly unveiled, bipartisan plan to repair America’s roads and bridges has his full support.

“Senate is working hard on America’s Transportation Infrastructure Act. Will have BIG IMPACT on our highways and roads all across our Nation. Interest strong from Republicans and Democrats. Do I hear the beautiful word, BIPARTISAN? Get it done. I am with you!”

The president previously tried to score a major infrastructure deal with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer which included spending more than a trillion dollars.

CNN reports the new effort invests $287 billion back into states across the countries to give each state its own flexibility to meet its infrastructure needs.

From the report:

By investing $287 billion in our road systems, this legislation is the most substantial highway bill in history. Ninety percent of that money would automatically go to states, so every community can have its needs met in red states and blue states alike.

America’s economy relies heavily on the nation’s roads and bridges. In 2015 alone, the US transportation system moved a daily average of about 49 million tons of freight worth more than $52 billion.

Additionally, America’s Transportation Infrastructure Act will speed up project delivery by codifying key elements of the President’s “One Federal Decision” policy, without forgoing important environmental protections. Cutting red tape will allow important highway infrastructure projects to be built quicker and smarter.

Part of building smarter is improving the durability of our roads and bridges. From strong hurricanes along our coastlines to wildfires in the West, we need roads that can withstand natural disasters and extreme weather events. Our legislation invests $5.5 billion over five years in a new resiliency program dedicated to protecting highways from storms, fires, floods, and rockslides.

As the Aggregates Manager reports, National Stone, Sand & Gravel Association (NSSGA) President and CEO Michael W. Johnson applauded the legislative effort as “much-needed”:

“We strongly support the America’s Transportation Infrastructure Act released today by the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee,” Johnson said in a statement. “Aggregates producers not only stand ready to build and rebuild America’s infrastructure, we also rely on a dependable, efficient transportation system in our daily lives.”

“The ATIA will provide much-needed funding to maintain and repair America’s roads and bridges. This is a positive step in addressing necessary infrastructure investment,” the CEO continued. “Our nation’s roads, bridges, highways, and the many other aspects of our infrastructure are in need of repair, improvement, and advancement to meet the needs of today and tomorrow. Bold steps such as today’s bill are critical to address infrastructure investment across the board for America’s economic future.”

He added, “I commend the bipartisan leadership of Chairman John Barrasso (R-Wy.), Ranking Member Tom Carper (D-De.), Transportation Subcommittee Chairman Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) and Ranking Member Ben Cardin (D-Md.). Their commitment to provide this level of funding is a very positive step forward. We look forward to working with the committee as the legislation moves forward, and urge the Senate to pass the ATIA.”
