President Trump is reportedly mulling the idea of commuting the 14-year prison sentence of former Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich.
Politico reports Trump told a group of reporters on Air Force One that he thought Blagojevich was unfairly penalized and believed the seven years he has already served in prison were enough.
Blagojevich, a Democrat, was impeached then removed from office in 2009 for corruption and was later indicted on multiple corruption charges. He was accused of trying to solicit personal favors and sell the U.S. Senate seat left vacant by Barack Obama winning the presidency.
During the case, a tapped phone conversation revealed Blagojevich saying: “I’ve got this thing, and it’s f*****g golden. I’m just not giving it up for f*****g nothing.”
Trump dismissed the governor’s comments from his phone call as “braggadocio” and insufficient for a conviction.

The president told the group of reporters that he did not believe Blagojevich’s phone conversation should have been heavily sentenced since he did not follow it up with actions.
“I thought he was treated unbelievably unfairly,” Trump said per the report. “He’s been in jail for seven years over a phone call where nothing happens.”
Trump tells reporters on AF1 he is considering giving disgraced and imprisoned former IL Gov Rod Blagojevich a pardon and commutation for federal corruption conviction. Blago, a “you’re fired” Apprentice guest, tried to extort children’s hospital and sell Obama’s senate seat.

“I would think that there have been many politicians — I’m not one of them by the way — that have said a lot worse over the phone,” the president added.

Patti Blagojevich has fought for her husband’s release for years, and Trump praised her in his comments Wednesday.
“His wife I think is fantastic, and I’m thinking about commuting his sentence very strongly,” Trump said.
