Taylor Swift Announces Political Push: ‘I Just Wanna Do Everything I Can For 2020’

On Saturday, pop music icon Taylor Swift revealed she is diving into the political arena next year.

While not running for office, the political activism comes as an atypical move for the 29-year-old star as she often steers clear of politics.

“I mean, obviously, I’m pro-choice, and I just can’t believe this is happening,” she told The Guardian.

“I can’t believe we’re here. It’s really shocking and awful,” she continued. “And I just wanna do everything I can for 2020. I wanna figure out exactly how I can help, what are the most effective ways to help. ’Cause this is just… This is not it.”

USA Today adds:

And although she doesn’t use his name, Swift also appears to talk about President Donald Trump directly.

“The thing I can’t get over right now is gaslighting the American public into being like, ‘If you hate the president, you hate America.’ We’re a democracy – at least, we’re supposed to be – where you’re allowed to disagree, dissent, debate,” she said. “I really think that he thinks this is an autocracy.”

Swift surprised many of her fans when she, for the first time, broke her silence about political issues in 2018 when voiced support for Tennessee Democratic senatorial candidate Phil Bredesen.

USA Today adds:

Earlier this month, Swift granted Vogue a rare interview where the 29-year-old talked about her decision to speak out on LGBTQ rights, sexism in entertainment and her $113,000 donation to the Tennessee Equality Project.

“They don’t call it ‘Slate of Hate’ for nothing,” Swift said, referencing several bills in the 2019 state legislature that received backlash from community leaders.

Swift released her newest album “Lover” earlier this week.
