Former White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders has some people wondering if she is gearing up to run for the Arkansas governorship.
On Monday, Sanders launched her new personal website with a simple, yet sleek template showcasing her work in the Trump administration and her personal life.
A brief introduction on the site’s homepage, which prominently displays a photograph of Sanders addressing reporters outside the White House, identifies her as a “trusted confidante of the President” who “advised him on everything from press and communications strategy to personnel and policy.”
The blurb notes that Sanders “is only the third woman — and the very first mom — to ever hold the job of White House Press Secretary.”
A longer a 336-word biography on the site states that for “two and a half years, Sarah was at the President’s side, battling with the media, working with lawmakers and CEOs, and staffing the President on every foreign trip, including dozens of meetings with foreign leaders.”
That biography touts Trump’s description of Sanders “as ‘irreplaceable,’ a ‘warrior’ and ‘very special person with extraordinary talents, who has done an incredible job,’” upon her departure from the White House in June.
The website also includes Sanders’ social media profiles with options to follow each of them alongside personal photos and posts.
Politico reports the new website could be “an online vehicle to facilitate Sanders’ speaking engagements” but it has some people wondering if the website is being used to already begin pitching her brand. The report continues to predict “it could also mark the beginnings of a sleek digital presence as she considers mounting a campaign to replace two-term Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson, a Republican first elected in 2014.”
According to the report, Sanders is open to running and is “seriously considering a run,” but has yet to make any announcement. She has been encouraged by her old boss, President Trump, and her father, former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee, to run for the position:
Three people who have spoken to Sanders told POLITICO in June that she is seriously considering a run, and multiple people close to Sanders spoke of a poll commissioned by her allies that showed Sanders beating her potential rival candidates in the gubernatorial race. Those people refused to share any further details of the poll.
Trump in June endorsed a potential bid by Sanders, tweeting that “she would be fantastic” at the top job in Little Rock. But Sanders’ father, former presidential candidate and ex-Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, insisted a week later that she was still undecided on running for governor.
“She doesn’t know. I mean, that’s the honest answer,” Huckabee told conservative talk radio host Hugh Hewitt. “The truth is, she has not had time to come up for air in the past three years. So she’s going to take some time to get her kids enrolled in school in Arkansas for the fall, go to vacation, just have some downtime — which is something she hasn’t done. And, you know, then she’ll start exploring.”
