California Democratic Congresswoman Katie Hill has resigned from Congress amid allegations that she was having a sexual relationship with more than one of her staffers.
Reuters reports the House Ethics Committee said on Wednesday that they had launched an investigation into the 32-year-old member and the various allegations against her. They said they were “aware of public allegations… (that Hill) may have engaged in a sexual relationship with an individual on her congressional staff.”
The investigation and subsequent resignation also came as several nude photos of Hill were posted online. Several of the photos included Hill with the staffers in question.

In a resignation letter posted to Twitter, Hill admitted to “inappropriate” relations and said her decision to leave Washington was best for her voters and the country.
Hill, who is going through a divorce, apologized in her resignation letter for “mistakes made along the way” but also lamented a “smear campaign”.
Hill blamed her husband and said she was pursuing legal options after media outlets published intimate photos that purported to be of the lawmaker.

ABC News reports Hill apologized in the resignation letter for her actions and for the impact they may have on other people.
“It is with a broken heart that today I announce my resignation from Congress,” Hill said in the statement. “This is the hardest thing I have ever had to do, but I believe it is the best thing for my constituents, my community, and our country.”
“Having private photos of personal moments weaponized against me has been an appalling invasion of my privacy. It’s also illegal, and we are currently pursuing all of our available legal options,” the congresswoman continued. “However, I know that as long as I am in Congress, we’ll live fearful of what might come next and how much it will hurt.
“I can no longer allow my community, family, friends, staff, supporters, and especially the children who look up to me as a role model, suffer this unprecedented brand of cruelty,” the Democrat said. “For the mistake made along the way and the people who have been hurt, I am so sorry.”
“I know that even a consensual relationship with a subordinate is inappropriate, but I still allowed it to happen despite my better judgment,” Hill added, per ABC News. “For that, I apologize. I wish nothing but the best for her and hope everyone respects her privacy in this difficult time.”

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi responded to the resignation with a statement of her own on Sunday night where she complimented her fellow California Democrat.
“Congresswoman Katie Hill came to Congress with a powerful commitment to her community and a bright vision for the future, and has made a great contribution as a leader of the Freshman Class,” Pelosi said per ABC News. “She has acknowledged errors in judgment that made her continued service as a Member untenable. We must ensure a climate of integrity and dignity in the Congress, and in all workplaces.”

Imagine that male Republican politician then resigning, but refusing to admit error and blaming his "abusive wife" and "hateful political operatives." There wouldn't be a lot of talk about "consenting adults."
