‘This Impeachment Sham Must Stop Here’: Top Conservatives Blast ‘Blockbuster’ Hearing

The first day of the public congressional hearings for President Trump’s impeachment went as one would expect: Democrats are taking a victory lap as they claim they have more than enough evidence to charge the president with a crime and Republicans are blasting the whole process as a partisan “sham.”

President Trump took to social media on Thursday morning to criticize House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff, who is overseeing the impeachment process.

Speaking of Republican Congressman and vocal Trump supporter John Ratcliffe, the president tweeted: “@RepRatcliffe asked the two ‘star’ witnesses, ‘where is the impeachable event in that call?’ Both stared straight ahead with a blank look on their face, remained silent, & were unable to answer the question.”

“That would be the end of a case run by normal people! – but not Shifty!” Trump added.

House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy similarly criticized the process in general and said Democrats are failing to live up to impeachment guidelines laid forth by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

Republican Congressman Jim Jordan, who regularly challenges Democrats over the impeachment process, similarly blasted the partisan push to impeach the president.

Conservative radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh criticized the “sponsored mutiny” during his show on Wednesday.

BizPac Review reports:

“We have here a bunch of professional nerds who wear their bow ties and they have their proper diplo-speak and, what are they upset about? They are upset that Donald Trump used irregular channels on foreign policy,” Limbaugh said, referring to testimony from Taylor and Kent complaining about the “irregular” channel President Trump’s lawyer Rudy Giuliani was part of and how it did not help U.S. policy towards Ukraine.

“There hasn’t been a single crime announced. There hasn’t been a single impeachable offense named. There hasn’t been anything but a bunch of self-important, narcissistic, ‘we run the world’ kind of guys really ticked off that they were ignored, that they were not listened to,” he added.

“But the irony is that everything they claim Trump has done that’s wrong are things the Democrats have done, things that [former President Barack] Obama has done,” Limbaugh continued on his show Wednesday.

“So now we’ve got two guys basically conducting a mutiny with the assistance of the Democrats on this committee. And the sole complaint is that Donald Trump is exhibiting misconduct because he doesn’t know what he’s doing. And he doesn’t know what he’s doing because he’s not using these guys. He’s not using their channel. He’s not using the inter-agency group, and he is not continuing the foreign policy of the Obama administration,” Limbaugh argued.
