On Tuesday morning, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerry Nadler, and House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff unveiled they are bringing forth two impeachment articles against President Trump.
The articles, which include abuse of power and obstructing Congress, are expected to receive a committee vote by the end of the week. They are likely to clear the committee without any Republican votes where they will proceed to a vote on the full House floor next Wednesday or Thursday.
Shortly after the announcement, the articles were made publically available online.
The Washington Examiner reports the first of the two articles reads: “Using the powers of his high office, President Trump solicited the interference of a foreign government, Ukraine, in the 2020 United States Presidential election.”
“He did so through a scheme or course of conduct that included soliciting the Government of Ukraine to publicly announce investigations that would benefit his reelection, harm the election prospects of a political opponent, and influence the 2020 United States Presidential election to his benefit,” it continues.
The second of the impeachment articles discusses “the unprecedented, categorical, and indiscriminate defiance of subpoenas issued by the House of Representatives pursuant to its ‘sole Power of Impeachment.'”
The article then plainly states: “President Trump thus warrants impeachment and trial, removal from office, and disqualification to hold and enjoy any office of honor, trust, or profit under the United States.”
