Teen Vogue wants people to know that there is no such thing as “biological sex”— that is, being born biologically male or female.
The claim was shared in a video where Teen Vogue producer Maria Tridas claims a person’s internal organs and characteristics defy the traditionally understood gender binary system. Tridas said the idea “that the body is either male or female is totally wrong.”
American Civil Liberties Union attorney Chase Strangio, who also appears in the video, says it is important for society to break down their traditional views of gender and biological sex. Strangio claims “it is really about political choices, social factors, ideological choices” that assigns meaning to different male and female parts of the body.
In the video, Teen Vogue editor and politics writer Lucy Diavolo makes the claim that “intersex people” exist which causes the breakdown of the binary system.
