Jussie Smollett Nominated For NAACP Award, Host Hopes He Wins

Jussie Smollett, best known for his acting role in “Empire” or perhaps more notoriously known for allegedly orchestrating a hate crime against himself to further his own professional career, has been officially nominated for the 2019 NAACP Image Awards.

As USA Today reports, the nomination comes just days after Smollett was indicted on 16 counts of disorderly conduct.

Six-time host Anthony Anderson reportedly wants Smollett to take home the award.

“I hope he wins,” Anderson said to Variety, as USA Today reports. “I’m happy for him that the system worked for him in his favor because the system isn’t always fair, especially for people of color. So I’m glad it worked out for him.”

Here’s more, from USA Today:

When asked whether or not Smollett would be in attendance at the award ceremony this year, representative Pamela Sharp told USA TODAY she did “not have that information as of now.”

This is the fourth consecutive year Smollett has been nominated in the Image Awards’ Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series category. He previously won in that category in 2017 and has also nabbed three different music-related Image Awards for his work on “Empire,” according to IMDb. He’s been in attendance for the last three award shows.

“It’s not my place or any other person’s place to judge him or what not, but I’m glad he’s nominated,” Anderson concluded. “I hope he wins because I’d be interested to hear his speech.”

After the prosecution unexpectedly dropped all charges against Smollett, the actor said he had endured “an incredibly difficult time” and that he wanted to get back to work.

“I have been truthful and consistent on every single level since Day 1,” Smollett said, per USA Today. “It’s been an incredibly difficult time. One of the worst of my entire life. … Now I would like nothing more than to just to get back to work and get on with my life.”

President Trump announced on Thursday morning that the Justice Department and the FBI would be looking into the legal case involving former “Empire” actor Jussie Smollett.

“It is an embarrassment to our Nation!” Trump said in a tweet about the case.

“FBI & DOJ to review the outrageous Jussie Smollett case in Chicago,” he added.

Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel and Chicago Police Superintendent Eddie Johnson were similarly outraged by the prosecutor’s decision to drop the charges.

“This is a whitewash of justice,” Emanuel said via USA Today. “It’s Mr. Smollett who committed this hoax. He’s still saying he’s innocent, still running down the Chicago Police Department. How dare he? How dare he?”

  1. Good post. I be taught one thing more challenging on completely different blogs everyday. It is going to at all times be stimulating to read content material from different writers and observe just a little something from their store. I’d prefer to make use of some with the content material on my weblog whether or not you don’t mind. Natually I’ll provide you with a link on your web blog. Thanks for sharing.
