Breaking: Jussie Learns His Fate on Next Season of ‘Empire’

WATCH: Jussie’s Response to Charges Being Dropped Sparks Nationwide Outrage

“Empire” has not yet been officially renews for the next season, but actress Taraji P. Henson told the hosts of ‘The View’ that the writers were already working on scripts for the sixth season.

Actor Jussie Smollett had been removed from the last two episodes of the season after he was arrested for being behind the hoax hate crime.

But then in a stunning turn of events last week, the 16 felony charges filed against him were dropped. The Mayor of Chicago Rahm Emanuel and the Chicago Police made it clear that they still believed he was behind the crime, despite the charges being dropped.

Henson was on The View to talk about her movie, “The Best of Enemies,” when host Meghan McCain asked her about Smollett.

McCain read a quote from Henson saying that after the charges were dropped she was “happy the truth has finally been set free.”

McCain then asked if Henson had spoken with Jussie Smollett.

“Yeah, I talk to Jussie all the time,” Henson said. “And he’s doing well. We’re all doing well, the show is doing well. We’re on hiatus right now. The writers are trying to figure out what the next season is going to look like, what our story line is going to be. They’re trying to drum up some really good juicy stuff for you guys. So that’s where we are.”

Joy Behar then asked bluntly, “Is Jussie going to be on the show?”

“Yes,” Henson replied emphatically. “I haven’t heard anything else.”

The writers of Empire and Henson have been supportive of Smollett.

After the charges were dropped last Tuesday, the Empire Writers Twitter account, tweeted, “See you on Wednesday” and retweeted Smollett’s sister’s claim that her brother had been vindicated.
