A Holocaust survivor identified as “David” claims Democratic Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is absolutely wrong about comparing migrant detention facilities to Nazi concentration camps.
“Hey AOC, you need to hear this,” said Turning Point USA Chief Creative Officer Benny Johnson, who shared a video of David’s interview with the Daily Caller.
“Meet David,” Johnson continued. “David has numbers on his arm. They were tattooed on him by Nazis when David was in Auschwitz death camp. Those Nazis killed David’s entire family. David has a message for anyone who thinks America runs ‘concentration camps.’”
During the interview, the Holocaust survivor recounts what he experienced during the Second World War and how he and his family were dragged from concentration camp to concentration camp.
“Listen to me, I went through it,” David said, starting the interview. “Please.”
Sharing his story, David recounts at one point there were more dead bodies in the camp than living ones and that everybody was fending for themselves for survival. He suffered, as did the many around him and he never knew whether he would ever be rescued, he said.
As for comparing the migrant detention facilities to concentration camps, David claimed: “This is not a concentration camp. They’re free. I looked up there and I said to myself—all the mattresses, everything, food—I said, at that time I would think it’s a country club.”
“It’s still America. It’s still the best country,” David added. “if you don’t believe it, then leave the country.”
Ocasio-Cortez first made the comparison during a live-streamed video uploaded to her Instagram account. She doubled-down on the claim in a series of tweets.
“This administration has established concentration camps on the southern border of the United States for immigrants, where they are being brutalized with dehumanizing conditions and dying,” Ocasio-Cortez tweeted.
