Eric Swalwell Claims His Anti-Gun Proposals Would Have Prevented Sandy Hook

Democratic presidential candidate Eric Swalwell, like many of his fellow candidates, has a series of major gun bans he would implement if he were elected.

Two of which he shared over social media—an assault weapon ban and a federal buy-back—he claims would have prevented the tragic shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut and the shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida.

“I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, ending gun violence is the top priority of our campaign. With awareness and ACTION, we will make it the top priority for our country as well,” Swalwell tweeted just ahead of the weekend.

John R Lott Jr., an author and Fox News columnist, responded: “If ending gun violence is really your top priority in your campaign, why is it the two proposals you mentioned in the debate (Background checks on private transfers & assault weapon bans) wouldn’t have stopped 1 #masspublicshooting this century?”

To which Swalwell answered: “Who wants to tell @JohnRLottJr that if my assault weapons ban AND buy-back had been in place BEFORE Sandy Hook or Parkland, those children wouldn’t have been killed?”

As Twitchy reports, the callback to the attacks was not well received by several people who responded to the post:
