UH-OH: Trump More Liked/Popular Than Romney In Romney’s Own State

More people in the state of Utah like and support President Trump than their own senator, Mitt Romney.

Romney was the only Republican to vote with Democrats to convict Trump on one of the impeachment articles, claiming he was doing what he believed to be right regardless of what people would think about his vote.

“The grave question the Constitution tasks senators to answer is whether the president committed an act so extreme and egregious that it rises to the level of a ‘high crime and misdemeanor,’” Romney said on the Senate floor, as Bongino reports. “Yes, he did.”

And it seems he really did not care as he ignored his own voters in the process.

While the poll was taken before Wednesday’s vote to acquit the president, it shows Romney acted against the wishes of a majority of people in his state when he became the only Republican in either the House or Senate to vote in favor of impeachment.

From Bongino:

A UtahPolicy.com survey released this week found that for the first time since his election, a majority of Utah voters approve of the president’s job performance–with 52% of likely voters approving of President Trump, while 45% disapprove.

The survey, notes UtahPolicy.com, “was conducted during the Senate impeachment trial of President Trump, but after the drone strike that killed Iranian Major General Qasem Soleimani, one of that country’s top military commanders.”

The Washington Examiner’s Paul Bedard points out that a poll for UtahPolicy.com conducted in October found that Romney’s approval rating in Utah was underwater–with 46 percent “strongly” or “somewhat” approving and 51 percent “strongly or somewhat” disapproving.

Several people online criticized Romney over the vote:

President Trump responded to Romney’s vote as well, referring to him as a “failed presidential candidate” (Romney ran and failed in 2012) and said he was acting out of “anger.”

The president also shared a video of Romney which describes him as “slick, slippery, and stealthy.”
