Biden Flubs His Own Name, Speaks About Re-Electing Donald Trump

During speeches in Missouri, Democratic presidential front-runner Joe Biden flubbed his own name and mistakingly told a crowd they should vote for President Trump’s re-election.

When speaking to potential voters in St. Louis, the former vice president called himself an “O’Biden Bama” Democrat. The remark was clearly mixing up his name and that of former President Obama, likely meaning to say Obama-Biden Democrat.

Biden’s distinction comes as his main opponent in the Democratic primary is Bernie Sanders, a self-identified socialist. Hawaii Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard is also still in the running.

His distinction also came as he is trying to rally together voters who previously backed presidential candidates who have since dropped from the running.

“To all of Amy’s folks, to all of Pete’s folks, to all of Kamala’s folks… Beto’s folks, I tell you what. What a gigantic difference it’s made. We’re going to unite this party and unite this country,” he said, referring Amy Klobuchar, Kamala Harris, Pete Buttigieg, and Beto O’Rourke.

“If you want to nominate a proud Democrat, a lifelong Democrat, an O’Biden Bama Democrat, join us,” he continued.

Watch:

In a later speech on the same day, in Kansas City, Missouri, Biden also struggled to say voters should consider him. He, instead, said they should vote for the man currently in the White House, President Trump—the very man Biden is running against.

“Excuse me. We can only re-elect Donald Trump,” Biden concluded after repeatedly messing up what he was intending to say.

CNN reports the full clip of the video is somewhat more gracious to Biden.

“We can only re-elect Donald Trump if in fact we get engaged in this circular firing squad here. It’s gotta be a positive campaign.” Biden said, speaking of negative attacks Sanders, Michael Bloomberg, and others were using. Bloomberg has since dropped from the race.

According to the report, the initial clip was being widely shared by President Trump’s campaign team as an intentional “disinformation” effort.

From CNN:

Biden campaign spokesperson Andrew Bates said Trump “has made it inescapably clear that he’s terrified of Joe Biden.”

“It’s not surprising that Trump’s re-election campaign is resorting to more disinformation about the Vice President — after all, Trump himself is so panicked about Joe Biden that he got himself impeached trying to force a foreign country to lie about him,” Bates said.

Trump has put Biden’s verbal slip-ups at the forefront of his early message against his potential general election opponent. The Trump campaign made a concerted effort Saturday to amplify the dishonestly edited clip. Campaign manager Brad Parscale, the campaign’s “war room” account, and campaign senior legal adviser Jenna Ellis all shared it.

The clip was also tweeted by prominent conservative radio host Mark Levin and conservative websites such as Townhall and RedState — and by some Sanders supporters with substantial Twitter audiences.

Here’s how some other people responded to the flubs:
