California Governor Gavin Newsom offered rare praise of President Trump and Vice President Pence as more individuals across his state continue to test positive for the Coronavirus.
During a presser, Newsom was asked about the federal response to the outbreak and whether they were doing enough to combat it—Democratic presidential candidates and some mainstream media members claim Trump is not doing enough.
“We had a very long conversation, and every single thing he said they followed through on,” Governor Newsom told the group of reporters.

Newsom and Trump rarely ever see eye-to-eye on an issue and routinely clash so the comment “seemed to be a shock to the journalists reporting on it,” Red State reports.
Newsom says that he had a "private conversation" with Trump and the president said everything Newsom "could have hoped for" and the administration has since followed through with what Trump said.

Following the first reported death to the Coronavirus in California, the governor declared a state of emergency and has worked with federal officials on containing the outbreak.
“The State of California is deploying every level of government to help identify cases and slow the spread of this coronavirus,” Newsom said at the time.
Newsom said during today’s press conference that the proclamation “is not about money, it’s about resourcefulness.”
“Money is not the issue,” Newsom added.
He also explained that the proclamation will loosen up regulatory environment, provide clarity, will also allow the state to preempt local land use. It will also help jurisdiction share information and data, advantageous to address the spread, Newsom said.
What is happening in California: Over 9,400 people are being monitored by 49 jurisdictions, Newsom said. It was previously reported that 8,400 people were being monitored.
It was the first coronavirus fatality in the United States outside of Washington state, where 10 people have died in a cluster of at least 39 infections that have emerged through community transmission of the virus in two Seattle-area counties.
Although the Placer County patient who died was not believed to have contracted the virus locally, that case and a previous one from the San Francisco Bay Area linked to the same ocean liner have led health authorities to seek other cruise passengers who may have had close contact with those two individuals.
The ocean liner was forced to remain at sea until medical teams were able to provide the vessel with Coronavirus tests. The governor is reportedly working with federal officials to care for the 21 people who tested positive.

Another individual who works at a high-traffic area, the Los Angeles International Airport, has tested positive for the Coronavirus. Reuters adds:
Six new coronavirus patients were confirmed in Los Angeles County, public health officials said on Wednesday.
Three others likely were infected while traveling recently to northern Italy, one of the areas hardest hit in the global outbreak. Of the six in Los Angeles County, only one has been hospitalized. The other five are recovering in home isolation.
