Acosta Says POTUS Is ‘Scapegoating’ China For COVID-19, Trump Jr. Crushes Him For It

CNN chief White House correspondent Jim Acosta accused President Trump of using China as one of several “scapegoats” for the coronavirus.

As Fox News reports, President Trump accurately said during Tuesday’s coronavirus press briefing that the COVID-19 has its origins in Wuhan, China. He then criticized the World Health Organization (WHO) for failing to identify China’s role in the global pandemic, especially for lying and withholding evidence about its origins.

As a result, Trump announced the U.S. would be withholding funding for the WHO as they continue to shield China from scrutiny.

This did not sit well with Acosta, who alleged Trump was using a number of things as “scapegoats” for his own mishandling of the coronavirus.

“Scapegoats blamed by Trump for Coronavirus pandemic: World Health Organization, Members of News Media, Democrats in Congress, Governors, (Not himself),” Acosta tweeted.

“Other scapegoats blamed by Trump: China, Obama administration,” he added in another tweet.

Trump Jr.’s spokesperson Andrew Surabian quickly responded to Acosta, knocking him for bashing the president.

“Well that didn’t take long. … CNN’s Jim Acosta quite literally defending/running interference for the Chinese Communist Party. I’m sure Xi sincerely appreciates his tweets. You can’t make this stuff up,” said Surabian, referencing Chinese President Xi Jingping.

Donald Trump Jr., in a tweet of his own, also swiped Acosta, suggesting his network change its name.

“Maybe time for a name change from CNN to Xi NN. It’s much more fitting,” Trump Jr. tweeted.

Republican Senator Ted Cruz similarly went after Acosta and CNN, saying they were “apologizing” for China.

“Why is CNN apologizing for the Communist Party of China?” Cruz asked. “You’re supposed to be journalists, not CCP propagandists.”
