United Nations Says ‘Wife/Husband’ Or ‘Boyfriend/Girlfriend’ Is Not PC, Gives Alternatives

The United Nations is looking to take political correctness to a global level and recommended people change the way they speak to reflect a new wave of politically-correct speech.

“What you say matters,” the United Nations said in a tweet. “Help create a more equal world by using gender-neutral language if you’re unsure about someone’s gender or are referring to a group.”

The tweet shows an image of commonly used words like “husband/wife” and boyfriend/girlfriend,” giving gender-neutral alternatives: “spouse” or “partner.”

The international body’s appeal to political correctness was not well received online as many people shared their own reasons for opposing the recommendation.
