Watch: Atlanta Wendy’s Set Ablaze By Protesters In Wake Of Police Killing Rayshard Brooks

Protesters quickly gathered at the Atlanta Wendy’s restaurant where police officers shot and killed Rayshard Books earlier that day, ultimately destroying it.

While the gathering started peacefully, it grew in size and the Wendy’s restaurant was set ablaze.

It is unclear who started the fire. Mainstream media outlets are crediting the protesters with its destruction, but some videos taken at the scene show it could have been white anarchist groups again using violence to exploit the death.

The Guardian reports: “Protesters have burned down the Wendy’s restaurant in Atlanta where a black man was shot by police as he tried to escape arrest, and blocked a major highway in the city.”

According to the report, the destruction followed comments earlier in the day from Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms, who called for and accepted the prompt resignation of police chief Erika Shields. Officer Bronsan was placed on administrative leave and Officer Rolfe was also terminated.

“I do not believe that this was a justified use of deadly force and have called for the immediate termination of the officer [who fired the fatal shot],” Bottoms said during a presser via BizPac Review.

She added: “What has become abundantly clear over the last couple of weeks in Atlanta is that while we have a police force full of men and women who work alongside our communities with honor, respect and dignity, there has been a disconnect with what our expectations are and should be as it relates to interactions with our officers and the communities they are entrusted to protect.”
