Democratic Congresswoman Maxine Waters is calling for a major overhaul of law enforcement as “police reform is not enough.” In a tweet, she also said she wants “police protective unions” eliminated altogether.

The California congresswoman specifically cites the fatal shooting of Rayshard Brooks in Atlanta for her call to action.

“Watch the video of the killing of #RayshardBrooks. A senseless & needless killing by a murderous cop! Police reform is NOT ENOUGH,” Waters tweeted Monday. “Getting rid of serial, racist, ignorant, & stupid cops must be a top priority. Let’s call them out! Police protective unions, you’ve got to go too!”

The two officers who responded to the Atlanta incident and who were ultimately responsible for takings Brooks’ life are facing criminal charges.

Officer Garrett Rolfe was fired from the Atlanta Police Department and faces 11 charges, including felony murder. Officer Devin Brosnan was placed on administrative duty and faces charges of aggravated assault and violating his oath of office.

From the Washington Examiner:

Officers said when they arrived on the scene, they suspected that Brooks had been driving under the influence and had passed out in his car. Body camera footage and videos taken by bystanders at the scene show officers administering Brooks a breathalyzer test, which he failed.

As police attempted to take Brooks into custody, he resisted, wrestling with them on the ground and taking one of their Tasers. Brooks ran from the scene with the Taser in his hand, at one point turning around and firing it at police.

Rolfe fired his gun three times, hitting Brooks and killing him.

The Daily Wire reports Burke County Sheriff Alfonzo Williams said he believes the police officers responsible for shooting and killing Rayshard Brooks in Atlanta were “completely justified” in doing so.

He said: “Obviously, we saw in the video that the — Brooks was engaged in a fight with the officers. They were on the ground. We know that when we’re on the ground, we have a very high likelihood of being hurt or killed. It’s not the place we want to be. This is not a wrestling match. Brooks is able to take a nonlethal weapon, a taser, away from one of the officers, and he flees, they give chase. He’s committed two felony obstruction of an officer counts, and he needs to be held accountable. So they were perfectly justified in running behind Brooks to capture him.”
