While protest groups are continuing to topple Confederate statues and those of U.S. President George Washington, Ulysses S. Grant, and Teddy Roosevelt, liberal blogger Shaun King is urging people to look at Jesus Christ.

Not as a savior, but for the next icon to topple.

In a pair of tweets, King said statues of Jesus “are a form of white supremacy” and should be removed.

“Yes, I think the statues of the white European they claim is Jesus should also come down. They are a form of white supremacy. Always have been,” King tweeted. “In the Bible, when the family of Jesus wanted to hide, and blend in, guess where they went? EGYPT! Not Demark. Tear them down.”

“Yes. All murals and stained glass windows of white Jesus, and his European mother, and their white friends should also come down,” he continued.

“They are a gross form white supremacy,” King wrote in a subsequent tweet. “Created as tools of oppression. Racist propaganda. They should all come down.”

Fox News reports: “Reactions on Twitter were mixed. Some agreed with King’s position, while others pointed out that cultures other than white Europeans have depicted Jesus in ways that resembled the local community.”
