Trump Announces New Recipient For Presidential Medal Of Freedom

President Trump has announced that he will be awarding Notre Dame football coach Lou Holtz with the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

“We have looked at Lou’s life and his career and what he’s done for charity, and the football is obvious,” Trump said on Friday, Breitbart News reports. “He was a great coach, but what he has done beyond even coaching.”

The president, standing with Holtz, mentioned that he and the renowned coach have been friends for many years. He also remembered the loss of Holtz’s wife, Beth, who passed away earlier this year.

“An incredible woman. I knew her,” Trump said before jokingly adding: “She was stronger than Lou.”

Breitbart adds:

Holtz delivered a speech during the Republican National Convention endorsing Trump for re-election and criticizing the modern left.

“They don’t have pride in our country, because they no longer ask, ‘What can I do for my country?’ Only what the country should be doing for them,” he said. “They don’t have pride in themselves. That’s wrong.”

Trump said that the medal would be awarded in the coming days.

In a tweet, Trump said he was encouraged to award the prestigious medal from a letter sent by Holtz’s colleagues.

“Letters from so many coaches, athletes and others pushed hard for this. I agree, has done so much for so many!”
