Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden may have just had his “basket of deplorables” moment when he seemed to suggest in a new CNN interview that Trump supporters in Michigan were racist.
The comment came in response to a question from CNN host Jake Tapper, who asked Biden why a county in Michigan voted for the Obama-Biden ticket twice—in 2008 and 2012—then overwhelmingly backed Trump in 2016.
“President Trump carried [the county] by 12 percentage points in 2016. Why do you think so many of these voters turned against the Democratic Party in 2016?” Tapper asked.
The question was a good one, highlighting a political swing that has become more common in the Trump-era.
Biden’s answer started good as he mentions these voters probably felt “taken for granted” by the Democratic Party.
Speaking of Trump, Biden said: “I think that he used that dog whistle on race.”
“Yikes,” Twitchy reported.
And yikes is right.
The report adds: “Biden had a real opportunity here to talk about why his administration would be different from Obama’s, how he would correct the issues that may have driven Democrats to vote for Trump but instead, he pulled the race card.”
This is such a stupid thing to say for Biden.
Those voters were left behind by the Obama economy. Simple as that. Biden could get them back, with the right message.
Calling them bigots…ain't it. https://t.co/1WQZtuFUkQ

In September 2016, Hillary Clinton was hosting a campaign fundraising event in New York City where she accused supporters of President Trump of being bigoted.
“We are living in a volatile political environment,” she said. “You know, to just be grossly generalistic, you could put half of Trump’s supporters into what I call the basket of deplorables.”
“Right?” she continued as the crowd cheered and laughed. “They’re racist, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic, Islamophobic – you name it.”
