McConnell Scolds Pelosi For Trying To Invoke The 25th Amendment To Remove Trump

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi wants to make a major revision to the 25th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution, recently introducing legislation to create a commission of doctors and healthcare professionals to assess the presidency’s physical and mental wellbeing.

Fox News reports the “dramatic announcement” follows “questions regarding Trump’s health as he recovers from coronavirus.”

And:

The 25th Amendment allows for the vice president to become acting president if is determined that the president “is unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office.”

Many people online predicted the move was almost certainly directed at President Trump—who she impeached at the end of last year—an opinion shared by Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell.

“That’s absurd. Absolutely absurd,” McConnell said about Pelosi’s effort to have Trump removed. “Again, right here in his last three weeks before the election, I think those kinds of wild comments should be largely discounted.”

The Daily Caller reports McConnell’s comments came after Pelosi held a press conference to announce the bill and where she claimed the effort was “not about President Trump.”

“This is not about President Trump,” she said Friday. “He will face the judgment of the voters. But he shows the need for us to create a process for future presidents.”

President Trump responded to the press conference as well, contending the effort could be part of a plan to have a successfully-elected Joe Biden removed from office.

“Crazy Nancy Pelosi is looking at the 25th Amendment in order to replace Joe Biden with Kamala Harris. The Dems want that to happen fast because Sleepy Joe is out of it!!!” he tweeted.

“Crazy Nancy is the one who should be under observation. They don’t call her Crazy for nothing!” the president added.
