‘More Than 100,000 People’: Trump’s Visit To India Fills World’s Largest Cricket Stadium

President Trump traveled over 8,000 miles to the world’s largest cricket stadium in Ahmedabad, India to bolster the alliance between the two countries and to heap praise on Indian Prime Minister Modi and his country.

Trump praised the Indian people and his visit was warmly received by the crowd of 100,000 people in the Sardar Patel Stadium. The crowd cheered Trump on, clapping and applauding numerous lines from his speech.

And the stadium was packed. Check this photo out from White House Press Secretary Stephanie Grisham:

The president’s comments were jovial and touching, commending the Indian people and the value of their friendship with the United States.

“The First Lady and I have just traveled 8,000 miles around the globe to deliver a message to every citizen across this nation: America loves India,” Trump told the crowd, who met his comments with applause. “America respects India. And America will always be faithful and loyal friends to the Indian people.”

ABC News reports:

Trump used Day One of his whirlwind 36-hour visit to India to reaffirm close ties with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and tease progress on a trade deal down the road. But the day was largely devoted to a trio of enviable photo-ops: the largest rally of Trump’s presidency sandwiched between visits to a former home of independence leader Mohandas Gandhi and the Taj Mahal.

In his first hours on the subcontinent, Trump received the adulatory reception that has eluded him on many foreign trips. More than 100,000 people packed the world’s largest cricket stadium, nearly all of then wearing white caps with the name of the event, “Namaste, Trump.”

The president also voiced support for India in a pair of tweets online, one of which was written in the native language of the Indian people, Hindi.

“Our two national constitutions both begin with the same three beautiful words: ‘We the people.’ That means that in America and India alike, we honor, respect, trust, empower, and fight for the citizens we proudly serve!” he said in one of the tweets.

“That is why I have come to India, with goodwill and love so that we can symbolize our desire and expand our incredible partnership,” he added in another.
