Tesla CEO Elon Musk is urging states to reopen their businesses and return to normalcy amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

In a series of tweets, Musk tweeted pointed to an end to social distancing and governmental lockdown with phrases like “FREE AMERICA NOW” and “Give people their freedom back.”

The Hill reports:

As the global COVID-19 outbreak began to take hold in the United States last month, a number of governors issued stay-at-home orders requiring people to avoid unnecessary travel and large gatherings in an effort to mitigate the spread of the disease. Many states also ordered nonessential businesses to close up shop for a time as part of the directives.

Many of those orders are set to expire at the start of May as President Trump and other leaders look to boost the economy after several weeks of mass closures in much of the nation.

In one tweet, Musk applauded the state of Texas and Governor Greg Abbott, who announced he would be allowing most restaurants and businesses to reopen on Friday.

“Bravo Texas!” Musk tweeted with an article detailing new guidelines put out by the Texas coronavirus task force.

Musk replied to a comment where he said facilities should “reopen with care & appropriate protection” as the coronavirus pandemic continued, but encouraged leaders not to put “everyone under de facto house arrest.”
