Joe Biden Said He Would ‘Be’ Biden, Not ‘Beat’ Biden During Interview with CNBC

Correction Notice: This article previously stated that Biden said he would “beat Biden.” We regret this error and have corrected the mistake.

According to a CNBC’s transcript of the interview, Joe Biden told voters that he’s going to “be Joe Biden,” despite claims on social media that accused the candidates of stating that he would “beat Joe Biden.”

In the context of the quote, “be” makes more sense, according to PolitiFact.

“I’m prepared to say that I have a record of over 40 years and that I’m going to be Joe Biden,” Biden said. “Look at my record.”

During the interview, the response on social media clearly indicate that the words “be” and “beat” sound similar, which created confusion.

As a result, PolitiFact concluded that “social media users misquote Biden” and “manufacture gaffe.”

Biden’s comments came during a May 22 interview with CNBC.

Anchor Joe Kernan asked Biden if he felt “prepared now to say you’re going to govern as a progressive and enact programs in the mold of (Bernie) Sanders and (Elizabeth) Warren.”

Here were the social media responses:

During another interview on Friday, Biden sparked controversy when he told The Breakfast Club radio show host Charlamagne Tha God that a voter “ain’t black” if they are unsure who to vote for in the upcoming election.

Bongino reports:

Joe Biden has largely been absent from the public eye recently – and given how his interviews when he does enter the public arena are going, it’s not hard to see why.

During an appearance this morning on the radio show The Breakfast Club, Biden was pressed by the host to select a black Vice President. Biden said that he had numerous black women on his VP list, and then tried to end the interview.

But before leaving, he added that “If you have a problem figuring out whether you’re for me or Trump, then you ain’t black.”

The comment sparked outrage online, but his campaign said the comment was a joke.
