It’s Happening: DOJ Charges Mail Carrier For Attempted Election Fraud, Might Prove Everything Trump Has Been Warning About [Opinion]

President Trump has warned against states that are attempting to conduct the November 2020 elections exclusively through mail-in ballots.

While the president has defended the use of absentee ballots in the past and even admitted to using one as a Florida resident, he claims Democratic governors are illegally mailing every resident a ballot.

Trump has argued that this would also spur voter fraud.

He might be right as a mail carrier in West Virginia has already been charged with attempted election fraud.

“West Virginia Attorney General Patrick Morrisey, U.S. Attorney Bill Powell and Secretary of State Mac Warner announced a criminal charge against a rural mail carrier Tuesday in connection with the alleged manipulation of absentee voter requests – evidence gathered by an investigator for the Attorney General on behalf of the Secretary of State’s Office,” a statement from the West Virginia Attorney General’s office read.

“Thomas Cooper, 47, of Dry Fork, stands charged with attempting to defraud the residents of West Virginia of a fair election,” the statement continued. “An affidavit accompanying the criminal complaint states Cooper fraudulently altered eight absentee ballot requests in Pendleton County, of which the complaint states he fraudulently changed the party affiliation on five from Democrat to Republican.”

Trump has been vocal about potential voter fraud and most recently tweeted that the election could be determined by “whoever cheated the most.”

“We can’t let large scale Mail-In Ballots take root in our Country. It would be a free for all on cheating, forgery and the theft of Ballots. Whoever cheated the most would win,” he said on Wednesday morning.

BizPac Review reports the president’s tweets have been subject to fact-checks from CNN/Washington Post, which claimed the president’s tweets were “unsubstantiated” and lacked evidence.

“There is no evidence that mail-in ballots are linked to voter fraud,” one review said.

Despite the president’s caution, states like Michigan and California (both Democratic governors) are looking to push the all-mail-in elections.

“The Governor of California is sending Ballots to millions of people, anyone living in the state, no matter who they are or how they got there, will get one,” Trump tweeted Tuesday morning. “That will be followed up with professionals telling all of these people, many of whom have never even thought of voting before, how, and for whom, to vote. This will be a Rigged Election. No way!”

The Hill reports:

A number of states, like California, have moved to expand mail-in voting in order to enable citizens to safely cast ballots in upcoming primaries and general elections during the coronavirus outbreak. Newsom announced earlier this month that all registered voters in California would be sent a mail-in ballot for the November elections to encourage voting by mail.

The RNC filed a lawsuit Sunday challenging Newsom’s executive order, alleging that the move “violates eligible citizens’ right to vote” and invites fraud in voting.
