In a recent piece about the cancel culture, I jokingly wrote: “Now, I need to go make sure Chase is still allowed to be on “Paw Patrol”.” I was kidding. Hours later, I started to see the tweets roll in. It was true. People are actually protesting the “Paw Patrol” cartoon character Chase.
Chase is an adorable puppy on the wildly popular Nickelodeon TV show, “Paw Patrol”. The program is geared toward little kids and it’s really an innocent, sweet show. Chase and five of his puppy pals, along with their human buddy Ryder, take part in many adventures. Their slogan is “No job is too big, no pup is too small”. It’s just a cute show for children.
Enter the insane among us. Apparently, this show must now be ridiculed, attacked, and ultimately canceled. Wait until you hear why.
The pups in the show all have a specific job or identity. Marshall, the Dalmatian is a firefighter and paramedic dog. Rubble, a bulldog, is a construction worker. Rocky is a handyman mutt who works in recycling. Zuma, the chocolate Lab is an aquatic rescue guy. Skye is a cockapoo and an aviator. And then there is Chase. Want to take a wild guess what he does? Well, the German Shepherd is a police dog. Therefore, in the minds of maniacs, he must be stopped.
Radical activists have targeted Chase because, well, in their heads, no cop can ever be portrayed as good. Not even a furry, fictional one. The show’s Twitter account has been bombarded with comments like “Defund Paw Patrol” and “Euthanize the police dog”. Sick.
This is where we are, folks. It will be very interesting to see what Nickelodeon does. Even a liberal entertainment company would not be so ridiculous that they would cancel a show or eliminate a character because he is a puppy officer, right?
It is 2020. Things just keep getting weirder. So, you never know.
Let’s not miss the bigger message here. Going after fictional police officers, including the animated variety, is painting the sick narrative that all cops are bad. Not just incompetent officers, but bad people. Not just Derek Chauvin. Not just Scot Peterson. All of them. All. The cops in your town. The police in every city. Even the cartoon dog that teaches your kids to be a good friend. How crazy is all of this nonsense? Orange man bad. Cops bad. Cartoon puppy bad. True insanity.
My kids love “Paw Patrol”. We have watched for years. There is no controversy and no politics. It’s just a nice show for kids to enjoy. I’m a Zuma guy, but I can vouch for Chase as well. Like the overwhelming amount of police officers in our country, Chase is a good cop.
