On Saturday, the White House announced the passing of President Trump’s younger brother, Robert Trump.

“It is with a heavy heart I share that my wonderful brother, Robert, peacefully passed away tonight. He was not just my brother, he was my best friend,” the president said in a statement via White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany.

The president, who visited his brother on Friday, continued: “He will be greatly missed, but we will meet again. His memory will live on in my heart forever. Robert, I love you. Rest in peace.”

The White House did not disclose the cause of death at this time. Robert was in the hospital at the time of his death, which occurred the day after Trump visited him in New York. The Hill reports Robert was also in the intensive care unit at Mount Sinai Hospital for more than a week in June.

BizPac Review reports Robert Trump was the youngest of the five Trump siblings:

  • Maryanne Trump Barry, 83, a retired federal judge

  • Fred Trump Jr., who died in 1981 at the age of 43

  • President Donald Trump, 74.

  • Elizabeth Trump Grau, 78, a retired bank executive

  • Robert Trump, RIP.

NBC News reports the Trumps worked together under the Trump Organization and that Robert supported his brother’s presidential bid:

Robert Trump had previously worked for his older brother as a top executive at the Trump Organization. Once a regular boldface name in Manhattan’s social pages, he has kept a lower profile in recent years. He married his longtime girlfriend, Ann Marie Pallan, in March, according to the New York Post. He divorced his first wife, Blaine Trump, more than a decade ago.

In a 2016 interview with the New York Post, he described himself as a big supporter of his brother’s run for the White House.

“I support Donald one thousand percent,” Robert Trump said.
