Trump Responds To Obama’s Speech With Stunning Mic Drop

On the third night of the Democratic National Convention, former President Obama violated the traditionally upheld “one president at a time” protocol when he repeatedly criticized President Trump.

While not illegal, Obama showed no interest in supporting the office of the presidency as he accused Trump of being unable to lead and said “Trump hasn’t grown into the job because he can’t.”

“I have sat in the Oval Office with both of the men who are running for president. I never expected that my successor would embrace my vision or continue my policies. I did hope, for the sake of our country, that Donald Trump might show some interest in taking the job seriously; that he might come to feel the weight of the office and discover some reverence for the democracy that had been placed in his care,” Obama said via CBS News. “But he never did.”

Referencing Trump, Obama continued: “For close to four years now, he’s shown no interest in putting in the work; no interest in finding common ground; no interest in using the awesome power of his office to help anyone but himself and his friends; no interest in treating the presidency as anything but one more reality show that he can use to get the attention he craves. Donald Trump hasn’t grown into the job because he can’t. And the consequences of that failure are severe.”

The former president also detailed the impact of the coronavirus—its death toll and the way it has swayed the economy—again blaming Trump; “170,000 Americans dead. Millions of jobs gone while those at the top take in more than ever. Our worst impulses unleashed, our proud reputation around the world badly diminished, and our democratic institutions threatened like never before,” he said.

President Trump quickly answered the criticism in a series of tweets, calling out Obama for spying on his campaign.

“He spied on my campaign, and got caught!” Trump tweeted.

“Why did he refuse to endorse slow Joe until it was all over, and even then was very late? Why did he try to get him not to run??” Trump added in a second tweet.

“But didn’t she call him a racist??? Didn’t she say he was incompetent???” Trump also tweeted, again in all-caps.

Earlier in the evening, Trump tweeted a video and welcomed “Barack and Crooked Hillary.”
