The Republican National Convention was a huge hit. Despite being virtual, the GOP bash had all the pomp even while dealing with the unprecedented circumstances. President Trump’s remarks on Thursday fired up the base and likely brought numerous more votes his way. Trump, Vice President Pence, other elected officials, and impactful, everyday citizens told their real-life American stories. Team Trump knocked it out of the park.
For all the memorable lines from Trump and other Republican stars, the comment that really sums up this election came from someone you might not expect. The words of the convention that really crystallized the difference between Trump and Joe Biden in a microcosm, came courtesy of Richard Grenell. The former U.S. Ambassador to Germany gave a wonderful speech this week, but one particular sentiment is ringing loud and clear from sea to shining sea.
“With Donald Trump, you always know exactly who is in charge,” Grenell said. What he said next surprised many people. Who is in charge, after all? Many expected Grenell to strongly say ‘Trump’. Instead, he brilliantly explained who actually runs the show in a Trump administration. “…because the answer is you,” said Grenell after a brief pause. “You’re in charge. Not lobbyists, not special interests, not warmongers or China sympathizers or globalization fanatics. With Donald Trump and Mike Pence in the White House, the boss is the American people.”
That’s right. We the People are in charge. That’s how our founders wanted it. That’s not at all how it’s been in recent decades. That’s how it’s been with Trump from day one.
Grenell, who served as Acting Director of National Intelligence in the Trump Cabinet and is now the Special Presidential Envoy for Serbia and Kosovo Peace Negotiations, summed up the entire election in seconds. Reelect Trump and you are in charge…elect Biden, and radical left-wing socialists take power. This election means everything.
There were many poignant speakers at the 2020 Republican National Convention. There is plenty to dissect, revisit, and remember. But when it comes down to brass tax, remember the words of Grenell.
If Biden wins, our exceptional nation is gone. If Trump comes in first we will continue to put America first.
