Hours After Trump Adds Tom Cotton To Potential List Of Supreme Court Nominees, Cotton Tweets ‘It’s Time For Roe V. Wade To Go’

President Trump bolstered his re-election campaign chances in releasing a list of people he would potentially nominate to the United States Supreme Court.

One name on the list included Republican Senator Tom Cotton. Cotton, wasting little time to campaign for the position, took to Twitter to make his judicial priorities crystal clear.

“It’s time for Roe v. Wade to go,” Cotton said.

The Daily Caller reports Cotton could potentially be Trump’s third Supreme Court nominee, joining Justice Neil Gorsuch and Brett Kavanaugh, and could give the conservative majority on the court enough votes they need to overturn the major abortion decision.

From the report:

When Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh replaced former Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy after a highly contentious confirmation process, progressive groups, media and activists alike said Kavanaugh was the fifth vote needed to overturn Roe v. Wade. But those warnings didn’t come to fruition after the Supreme Court struck down a law in June that would have significantly restricted abortion access.

Should Cotton be nominated to the Supreme Court, the Arkansas senator could be that fifth vote.

Cotton has criticized Planned Parenthood and abortion advocacy and has an ‘A’ rating from the pro-life Susan B. Anthony List. In May, Cotton led GOP senators in urging the Justice Department to investigate reports that 37 Planned Parenthood affiliates improperly received over $80 million in coronavirus funding.

According to the report, Cotton has made a name for himself in conservative and evangelical circles as a defender of the unborn.

“These are precious little children, made in the image of God and endowed by Him with the same worth and dignity as you and me and all of us,” Cotton said in February, criticizing Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s decision to hold coronavirus relief funds to fund Planned Parenthood. “We have a duty to these little children. We have a duty not to look away from them.”

The list of potential nominees also includes Republican Senators Ted Cruz and Josh Hawley. Both men also have proven track records of supporting the unborn and the right to life.

March for Life President Jeanne Mancini told the Daily Caller that any of the men would make excellent additions to the highest court in the country.

“One of President Trump’s greatest accomplishments has been the restoration of the judicial system through the appointment of judges who respect life and the U.S. Constitution,” Mancini told the outlet. “We anticipate that process will continue in a second term and look forward to the day that courts recognize the inherent dignity of all human life.”
