World Leaders React To Trump & FLOTUS Coronavirus Diagnosis

World leaders are expressing their optimism for a “speedy recovery” after President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump announced they tested positive for the coronavirus.

“Tonight, @FLOTUS and I tested positive for COVID-19. We will begin our quarantine and recovery process immediately. We will get through this TOGETHER!” he tweeted.

“As too many Americans have done this year, @potus & I are quarantining at home after testing positive for COVID-19. We are feeling good & I have postponed all upcoming engagements. Please be sure you are staying safe & we will all get through this together,” she added.

ABC News reports the list of foreign heads of state to wish the U.S. president well includes India Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan.

“Wishing my friend @POTUS @realDonaldTrump and @FLOTUS a quick recovery and good health,” Modi said in a tweet.

Khan similarly said he was wishing the couple a “speedy recovery.”

U.K. Prime Minister Boris Johnson, who tested positive for the coronavirus earlier this year, tweeted: “My best wishes to President Trump and the First Lady. Hope they both have a speedy recovery from coronavirus.”

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also responded, wishing the couple a “full and speedy recovery.”

ABC News adds:

German Chancellor Angela Merkel and the World Health Organization Director-General Dr. Tedros Adhanom also expressed their hopes for a full recovery, while a French government spokesperson said that the diagnosis “demonstrates that the virus spares no one, including those who have shown skepticism.”

Russian President Vladimir Putin, who does not Tweet, has sent a telegram to his U.S. counterpart and wished Trump a speedy recovery from coronavirus, the Kremlin press service said.

“I am confident that your vital energy, high spirits, and optimism will help you cope with the dangerous virus,” the press service quoted Putin as saying.

The Associated Press reports Trump is the latest of a growing list of world leaders to test positive for the coronavirus: British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro, Honduras President Juan Orlando Hernandez, Guatemalan President Alejandro Giammattei, Belarus president Alexander Lukashenko, Monaco Ruler Prince Albert II, Bolivian interim president Jeanine Anez, and the Dominican Republic President Luis Abinader.
