Big Ben-Sized Asteroid Approaching Earth This Week — Here’s What You Should Know

An asteroid the size of London’s Big Bed is reportedly approaching earth, according to Fox News.

The asteroid, which has been dubbed as 2020 TGI, will safely zoom past earth on Thursday, October 22, as reported by NASA’s Center for Near-Earth Object Studies.

The space rock is reportedly traveling at a speed of 30,700 miles per hour.

Its most recent encounter with the planet was April 20, 2013, and it will not come close to Earth again until Feb. 6, 2024. Scientists estimate that 2020 TGI is between 154 and 360 feet wide.

“Potentially hazardous” NEOs are defined as space objects that come within 0.05 astronomical units and measure more than 460 feet in diameter, according to NASA. According to a 2018 report put together by, there are more than 18,000 NEOs.
