All eyes are on the presidential race with Election Day finally here. It’s understandable, considering we are choosing between morning in America and the darkest winter imaginable. It’s not just Donald Trump vs. Joe Biden, it truly is choosing between the American dream and a national nightmare. Bold colors all the way, no pale pastels.
Along with the race for the White House, however, there are some very important congressional races being decided as well. One contest in Pennsylvania features a candidate who has campaigned with the passion and patriotism that has truly been Trumpian. Her campaign has done something most Republican candidates in her area have not done in the past four years. Unlike the RINOs before her and among her, Dasha Pruett has embraced President Trump and incorporated him into her candidacy every step of the way.
Pruett is running for Congress in Pennsylvania’s fifth district. Her opponent is ultra-liberal incumbent Mary Gay Scanlon. Scanlon’s fervor for abortion and gun confiscation puts her right in there with the Biden-Harris crew. Her visceral, weird hatred for President Trump endears her with Bernie, AOC plus three, and the rest of the wacky left. Scanlon is as liberal as it gets. The difference for voters this time around, however, is they actually have a choice.
Unlike the usual type of candidate the spineless local GOP usually puts up in these parts, Pruett is a true conservative. An immigrant from Russia, Pruett is pro-God, pro-life, pro-Second Amendment, pro-family, and most shockingly for some, pro-Trump. This area has seen a steady decline in GOP success. Towns like Upper Darby and Havertown were filled with Republican officials. Now, they are all Democrat, The Delaware County Council is also chock full of lefties. Establishment Republicans blame redistricting and an influx of new residents. Those arguments are valid. The same hacks, however, also blame Donald Trump for local GOP losses. They couldn’t be more wrong.
Consider the gutless worms who have led the GOP in this area in recent years. Former Congressman Pat Meehan did not vote for Trump in 2016. Instead, in a cowardly move, typical of a RINO, Meehan wrote in a vote for Mike Pence. How cute. Meehan later resigned after a sexual harassment charge against him.
Last cycle, Scanlon’s opponent was Pearl Kim. Kim wouldn’t even speak of Trump, let alone endorse him. Despite repeated questions from Mama Grizzly Radio, Breitbart News, and private residents, Kim would not tip her hand on how she felt about Trump. Kim lost big in the general election.
Even U.S. Senator Pat Toomey, who on paper is with Trump on most issues, played politics in 2016. Toomey remained silent on Trump until the last day, before finally giving him a half-hearted, mealy-mouthed endorsement.
Their logo remains an elephant, but it may as well be a scaredy-cat. These people aren’t Republicans. They are part of the swap or wanna-be swamp creatures. Not Pruett. She’s true blue and running an all-red campaign.
Pruett loves Trump. She talks about his policies and assures voters that if elected, she will be a strong supporter of the MAGA agenda. Even one of her campaign slogans ‘Make Delco Great Again’, screams of Trump.
In 2016, the lawns across this region told the story of a GOP filled with snowflakes. While some lawns would display a Trump sign, others would show signs for all the GOP candidates except Trump. In other words, those directly affiliated with the party hid from Trump, while regular, hardworking residents proudly backed him.
Even now, Pruett stands alone. Several Republican candidates for State Senate, State Representative, and other offices are still keeping their runs Trump-free. Repeated messages sent to candidates like Ellen Fisher about her stance on Donald Trump were not answered. Like so many in this area, she is pulling a Pearl Kim.
Pruett has received little support from GOP bosses. No surprise. Her establishment primary opponent didn’t’ congratulate her after her resounding win. Sadly, this is what Republicans do.
We’ve seen thos song and dance before. Democrats rally together after primaries. Hillary Clinton endorsed Barack Obama right away despite a nasty primary in 2008. Bernie Sanders did the same for Clinton in 2016 and for Biden this year. But not the GOP. Especially when the party favorite is upset in the primary.
Look at Bret Schundler in New Jersey after his shocking primary win in the 2001 gubernatorial race. Republican brass hung him out to dry. Christine O’Donnell was called worse than a witch after she had the ‘audacity’ to topple establishment hopefuls in the Delaware U.S. Senate primary in 2010. Before George Bush campaigned against Al Gore in 2000, he had to first go on a John McCain butt-kissing tour to get his blessing, wasting valuable time that almost cost him. We all saw what the Kasich’s and Romneys of the world did to Trump after he secured the GOP nomination four years ago. It’s a Republican problem. In this part of Pennsylvania, it is running rampant.
Hacks and party clowns will blame Trump when things go poorly for Republicans, but really it’s the terrible candidates the establishment continues to nominate that cause loss after pathetic loss. If you don’t give people a choice, how can you win?
People don’t want milquetoasts like former State Senator Tom McGarrigle and his gun-grabbing, Trump-hating pals. They want patriots who are willing to share a stage with President Trump instead of spiteful wimps still bitter because weak links like Mitt, McCain, and Jeb couldn’t get it done. Trump wins. Trump supporters win.
Across the state line, New Jersey can’t stand their incompetent Governor Phil Murphy. Understandable. But guess how they got Murphy? Because he ran against a ‘Republican’ candidate that was basically Murphy-Lite. Kim Guadagno was pro-abortion and anti-gun, and she didn’t vote for Trump. Yet, Republicans expect enthusiastic support? People are sick of choosing between terrible and slightly less bad.
When you actually stand up for something, voters notice. Schundler and O’Donnell won their primaries because they were different than the usual slop served up by the Republican party. Pruett is also worth voting for. She’s a bold color in a sea of pale pastels.
Could Pruett lose? Of course. The district is filled with Dems and it’s very difficult to function with lukewarm party backing. But, Pruett has the intangibles. She’s honest, she’s driven, and she speaks directly to the people. Not to just Republicans, but to everyone. Pruett is ready to serve all the people.
Besides her unwavering public support of Trump, Pruett’s hustle and ground game are something else this area is not used to. As a Republican challenger, Pruett doesn’t just have one-yard sign design but several. From ‘Dasha Pruett’ to ‘Dasha’ to ‘Make Delco Great Again’, Pruett is getting her name out there. There’s even a slew of ‘Democrats For Dasha’ signs popping up. Perhaps the sign that tells you the most about Pruett however, is one that doesn’t showcase her at all. Pro-police signs that simply read ‘COPS’ are all over the county. The ‘O’ in cops is a heart. That’s it. Her name isn’t featured. Yet that’s the kind of woman this is. She is spending hard to come by campaign cash on signs to support our wonderful police officers, even if she gets no credit for it. Like Trump, Pruett is proud to back the blue. Voters are noticing.
You can’t help but notice Pruett. She has crisscrossed around her district like Trump crisscrossing the country. Pruett is everywhere. Whether it’s knocking on doors and throwing out first pitches or meeting with big guns like Rudy Giuliani and Trump family members, Pruett is giving it her all with high energy. Most importantly, she’s listening to the people. She’s doing what Trump does.
Win or lose, Pruett is already a winner. She has shown that a legitimate Trump-loving patriot can win a nomination and take an honest message directly to the people. Instead of some canned, written nonsense, Pruett has expressed fresh ideas without a filter. She’s doing what Trump does.
If the heavily liberal district reelects Scanlon on Tuesday, it’ll be bad news for sure. But, the GOP has a chance here to learn from Dasha Pruett. Instead of throwing in the towel, come back again with Pruett or someone like-minded in two years. Proudly support President Trump and give Pennsylvania 5th District voters an actual choice. Don’t go back to the Pearl Kims of the world. Those phonies will always lose. Pruett types may win or lose, but even in defeat, these candidates are the real deal. They lay the groundwork and build on something good. Another taste of Scanlon and people will be yearning for a Pruett-type conservative next time around, not some establishment empty suit. Win or lose, Dasha Pruett has already won.
Just for kicks though, wouldn’t it be something if Pruett pulls off the upset and goes to Washington? Don’t bet against her. She could win, After all, she’s doing what Trump does.
