The Los Angeles Police Department has released a statement after unhinged actor Will Smith walked on stage to assault comedian Chris Rock over a joke.
Chris Rock has declined to press charges and police confirmed that they are not investigating the incident.
“If the party desires a police report at a later date, LAPD will be available to complete an investigative report,” the department said in a statement. Watch the clip:

Smith later went on to win his first Oscar for Best Actor for his leading role in “King Richard,” but this was overshadowed by his act of violence.

Smith was sent over the edge over a joke about his wife’s hair loss condition.
“I can’t wait to see you in ‘G.I. Jane 2,’” Rock said, which drew an eye-roll from Pinkett Smith.
Apparently Smith found this joke to be so scary and mean that he proceeded to walk on stage and slap Rock in the face.
After returning to his seat, Smith is heard yelling, “Keep my wife’s name out your f****** mouth!”
“Wow, Will Smith just smacked the s**t out of me.”
Rock explained “it just a ‘G.I. Jane’ joke.”
Again, Smith screamed, “Keep my wife’s name out of your f***ing mouth.”
“I will,” Rock answered before presenting the Best Documentary Feature to Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson’s “Summer of Soul.”
