A Four-Legged Hero In Ukraine Is Helping to Clear Bombs: ‘Two-Year-Old Named Patron’

A Jack Russell named Patron has been working to clear explosives in Ukraine by sniffing them out.

Hundreds of devices have been left behind by Russian forces, according to the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Originally, mine detection dogs were used in the Second World War.

For Patron’s success in helping Ukrainian forces, he has received awards and even met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

He has been working in Chernihiv, which is north of Kyiv. Patron is two years old and has gain significant fame after appearing on social media.

State Emergency Service of Ukraine (SES) indicated that “all he asks for at the end of the day is a belly rub (or three) and some cheese treats.”

He is accompanied by an officer from the SES. Video footage has captured Patron working alongside Ukrainian military.

“While retreating, Russia’s military personnel is setting up booby-traps, banned by the international law, even on food facilities, private housing and human corpses,” the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.
