Mayor Tiffany Henyard of Dolton, Illinois, faced a lawsuit from a former employee, Dwayne Thrash, who claimed wrongful termination after refusing to assist in firing another employee.

Thrash alleged that Henyard and her ally Freeman terminated individuals perceived as threats or who opposed their directives.

The lawsuit detailed Thrash’s refusal to participate in firing an attorney and subsequent dismissal on grounds of misconduct and insubordination during his vacation.

“Ever since Henyard became Mayor of the Village of Dolton and Supervisor of Thornton Township, she and her closest allies within the Village of Dolton and Thornton Township, including Freeman, have terminated the employment of several individuals they feel pose a political threat to Henyard and her public image, and/or who run afoul of Henyard and/or Freeman by defying their wishes,” the lawsuit read.

Allegations of wrongful firings for non-compliance with Henyard or Freeman were raised.

“In response thereto, Thrash told Henyard and Freeman something to the effect of ‘you want to fire everyone in the office and I’m not going to go along with that,’” the lawsuit states.

Thrash seeks to clear false write-ups and seeks damages for his termination.

Henyard, under scrutiny for spending and facing multiple investigations, is also confronted with another lawsuit alleging unfair treatment and dismissals within her administration.

“People have really been damaged by this administration,” former Thornton Township Human Resources manager Sandra Tracy said. “My personal situation is that I was trying very hard to get paid, and I couldn’t get anybody to respond to me — not to call, text or email.”
