Hung Cao secured the Virginia Republican Senate primary win to challenge Senator Tim Kaine in the upcoming November election, endorsed by former President Trump.
“A Combat Veteran and Highly Decorated Special Operations Officer, Hung Cao will be a tireless fighter to stop inflation, grow our Economy, secure our Border, strong support our incredible Military/Vets, and defend our always under siege Second Amendment,” Trump wrote.
“Hung Cao has my Complete and Total Endorsement,” he added.
Despite Trump’s endorsement, Cao faces competition from primary contenders supported by current Republican senators.
The race is marked by Republican efforts to challenge Democratic control in Virginia, with Kaine acknowledging the need to campaign actively.
“I know I’m not taking it for granted,” Kaine said. “I don’t think anyone should.”
Although the Cook Political Report labels the race as “Solid Democratic,” recent polls indicating a tie between President Biden and Trump in Virginia suggest changing dynamics, with Republicans aiming to shift traditional blue states like Virginia in their favor.
“Joe Biden is so weak, and Democrats are in such disarray, that not only is President Trump winning every traditional battleground state, but longtime blue states such as Minnesota, Virginia, and New Jersey are now in play. President Trump is on offense with a winning message and growing his movement every single day. Joe Biden’s campaign should be terrified,” Trump campaign spokesperson Karoline Leavitt stated.
