Two illegal immigrants, Mohammad K. Dabous and Hasan Y. Hamdan, who were arrested for attempting to break into the Marine Corps base at Quantico, Virginia, have been released on bail and allowed to remain in the United States.

The pair, disguised as delivery drivers, attempted to breach the base by ramming their truck through a gate.

Following their court appearance, the prosecutor did not request jail time or deportation, and a magistrate judge permitted their release under conditions to attend future court and immigration proceedings.

“We ask that the defendant be required to show up to all future court appearances, to all future immigration proceedings, and that he be reminded not to trespass onto Marine Corps Base Quantico or any other military installation,” prosecutor Alexander Amico said.

Hamdan crossed the southern border illegally prior to the incident, and Dabous overstayed his student visa.

Reports suggest one of the men may be on a terror watchlist, but the Biden administration did not confirm this.

The incident’s details were initially underreported, and inquiries into its implications have faced administrative pushback. The motivations behind their attempted break-in remain unclear.

“The administration has gone to extraordinary lengths to avoid characterizing motivations for the incident or do what most interested parties want: rule out the incident as an attempted terror attack by an illegal border-crosser,” the Center for Immigration Studies said.
