The Biden administration is developing a plan to provide legal status to some unauthorized immigrants, according to a CBS News report.

The program would give work permits and deportation protections to undocumented immigrants who have lived in the US for at least 10 years and are married to US citizens.

Known as “Parole in Place,” it aims to create a pathway to permanent legal status and citizenship by waiving an existing rule requiring those who entered illegally to leave the country first.

Additionally, the administration seeks to simplify eligibility requirements for “Dreamers” and others seeking temporary visas.

The proposals are expected to be announced alongside the 12th anniversary of the DACA program.

The “Parole in Place” initiative could offer the broadest immigration relief since DACA, covering an estimated 1.1 million spouses of citizens, as Biden utilizes executive action in the face of congressional gridlock on reform.
