Travis and Jason Kelce’s last name, “Kelce,” has been a subject of mispronunciation.
A recent NFL clip revealed that it is actually pronounced “Kels.”
“Y’all know it’s not even Travis Kel-see?” said fellow Chiefs player Chris Jones.
“It’s Travis Kels. F—— crazy, right?” he added.
The brothers discussed this on their podcast, revealing that their father, Ed Kelce, changed the pronunciation because he got tired of correcting people.
Jason asked his father Ed, “Why in the world did you change your name outta nowhere and now we are Kel-see?”

“I never changed my name outta nowhere,” replied Ed.
“Well, let’s talk about it. Why did we think that our name was ‘Kel-see’ … for the first 24, 25 years of our life? 25 for me, 27 for Trav,” pressured Jason.
“I got tired of correcting people,” said Ed.
“That’s a good of [a] reason to stop. That’s as good as I’ve heard,” Jason said, acceptingly.
“So you changed your entire family’s name over generations, because you were tired of correcting people?” asked Jason.
“Do whatever you want. I did!” recommended Ed.
In 2021, Travis said, “I got ‘Kel-see’ and ‘Kels.’ My real name is ‘Kels.’”
“I just kinda roll with the punches,” he continued.
This revelation surprised Travis’ teammate, Patrick Mahomes.
Mahomes posted, “You learn something new everyday.”
The family’s differing pronunciations and the decision to change the pronunciation were discussed, shedding light on the true pronunciation of their last name.
