Hamas’s senior representative in Lebanon, Osama Hamdan, reiterated the group’s uncompromising stance on the destruction of Israel, aligning with Iran’s opposition to a “two-state solution.”
This presents a challenge to President Biden’s foreign policy. Additionally, Hamas leaders have openly expressed their objective of eradicating Israel and have celebrated violent attacks.
“Israel is occupying the Palestinian land, and we believe that a two-state solution will not help to resolve the Palestinian issue,” Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian said.
Iran, a key supporter of Hamas, has consistently rejected the idea of two states co-existing and has condemned Israel’s right to exist.
“Talking about two states is over,” Iranian Expediency Council member Mohsen Rezaei said.
“The era of normalizing relations (with Israel) has ended, and a new order will be created in the region,” he said. “An international anti-Zionist movement will awaken in the world … This movement will be created across the nations due to the tremendous crimes that took place — even Hitler did not do such things.”
Despite this, Secretary of State Antony Blinken has emphasized the Biden administration’s commitment to establishing a Palestinian state alongside Israel, which has faced challenges, including rejected truce proposals from Hamas.
America holds a “commitment to establishing durable peace in the Middle East, including the establishment of a Palestinian state that ensures security for Israelis and Palestinians alike,” Blinken said.
